Easter Farmhouse Decor

Supplies:

Acrylic paint

Paint brushes/palette knife

Twine

Wooden bead (optional)

Ribbon (optional)

Texture Medium

Glue & Glue Gun

Pencil

Let's get started...

The first step is remove the original twine hanger. My ornaments were smooth, but depending on the ones you choose, you may need to sand and wipe down before proceeding with the next steps.

Decide on a design and draw it onto the wooden ornament. I chose to draw two bunnies and a cross for Easter. With your hot glue, trace over the design, creating a raised effect. Let the glue cool and harden.

TIP: Ideas for designs... a heart for valentines day, a shamrock, flowers, a dog or cat, a barn or house, a tree, school, church, or words. At Christmas, you can add anything -- nativity, cross, gifts, santa, elves, words, deer, holly, etc. Have fun with it!

Next, paint over the dried glue and ornament with white acrylic paint. Allow to dry.

With a palette knife or paint brush, add colorful paints to your ornament. Since I was painting a bunny, I decided to add a blue sky and green grass. Next, layer in lighter colors over your base colors. You can do this by adding a small amount of white paint to the paint you've already used.

Now, paint over the raised areas in a contrasting color to make it stand out. I chose a medium brown color for both designs.

I ended up adding lots of colors to the cross ornament with my palette knife until It was just right.

To give it more texture, I added Snow-Tex to the bunny's body and raised tail and allowed it to dry completely.

TIP: *Using a heat gun or hair dryer helps speed up drying time!

At this point, I add the smaller details like clouds and flowers. I'm using a craft stylus from the DT for the lavender flowers but you can use the opposite end of your paintbrush, a q-tip, or toothpick to create small dots. Get creative here! Adding a bow to the bunnies with either paint or ribbon would be adorable!

Lastly, I added a twine hanger with a wooden bead at the end. For the cross, I added a twine hanger, a small bow, and stamped RISEN! onto the bottom using letter stamps and ink from Hobby Lobby.

You can make these anytime of the year! Think outside if the box... many people keep up a tree and change out the decorations with every holiday. You can also use them in tiered trays or as door hangers. They make great gifts for your secret sister, a co-worker, teacher, or friend. Having something you made by hand makes it extra special! Don't forget to sign it or write a sweet message or scripture on the back of it.

I think they turned out GREAT, don't you?

I hope you enjoyed this craft. If you make one, be sure to share it on our FB creatives page!
